Wesak Day Penang 2014

Here are some pictures I took on the tab yesterday at the 2 Burmese temples and the procession that follows afterwards.

Wesak Day, also known as Buddha Purnima and Buddha Day, is a holiday observed traditionally by Buddhist to commemorates the birth (purnima), enlightenment (nirvāna), and death (Parinirvāna) of Gautama Buddha.

There were hundreds or maybe even thousand of people at Burma Lane, Georgetown yesterday. We saw the colourful Buddhist flags everywhere, flowers, candles and joss sticks. There were some rituals that we dont really understands and feels that it kind of contradicts with the Buddha’s teaching but over all, it was a calm and peaceful festival.

The temples were really beautiful with all it intricate designs – we definitely going to come back again for a quiter visit.
